Skin Ulceration Due to Metastatic Emboli from Ventricular Myxoma
نویسندگان
چکیده
We report a case of left ventricular myxoma metastasizing to blood vessels of extremities and causing cutaneous ulceration. Most of left ventricular myxomas are symptomatic (92.7%). Systemic embolism is the most common manifestation (50%) and often leads to death. The propensity of cardiac myxomas to embolize is thought to be related to tumor morphology, with friable and gelatinous myxomas being more likely to embolize than firm and fibrous lesions. 27 The current case is rare in the sense that the myxomatous material had metastasized to blood vessels of hands and legs, causing arterial insufficiency and hence cutaneous ulceration.

Preoperative Emboli in a Pregnant Woman with Myxoma
The left atrium is the most common location of myxomas, which are benign tumors. Only a few cases of myxomas in pregnancies have been reported. Our thorough medical literature search showed only 17 reported cases in the course of pregnancy. Myxomas during pregnancy and in the preterm period constitute a serious phenomenon that can mimic an early sign of a life-threatening pathology like severe ...
متن کاملMultiple Metastatic Intracranial Lesions Associated with Left Atrial Myxoma
BACKGROUND One of the most common cardiac tumors is myxoma. Despite its predominantly benign course, diverse cardiological, systemic as well as neurological complications have been reported. CASE REPORT We are the first from Poland to present the case of a patient with multiple central nervous system metastases associated with the left atrial myxoma. Various diagnostic, neuroradiological and ...
متن کاملYoung stroke, cardiac myxoma, and multiple emboli: a case report and literature review.
Cardiac myxoma is a source of emboli to the vascular tree, especially to the central nervous system. Although it is rare, its early recognition is particularly important because of its unique clinical features of subsequently leading to intracerebral or subarachnoid hemorrhage, even brain metastases, and its potential for surgical cure. Missing the diagnosis may lead to devastating results, inc...
متن کاملRecurrent right ventricular cardiac myxoma in a patient with Carney complex: a case report
INTRODUCTION Carney complex is a multiple neoplasia syndrome involving cardiac, endocrine, neural and cutaneous tumors with a variety of pigmented skin lesions. It has an autosomal dominant mode of inheritance. Approximately 7% of cardiac myxomas are related to the Carney complex. Myxomas that occur as part of the Carney complex affect both sexes with equal frequency. Cardiac myxomas with Carne...
متن کاملEvaluation of transesophageal echocardiography in detecting cardiac sources of emboli in ischemic stroke patients
Background: Embolus is one of the causes of ischemic stroke that can be due to cardiac sources such as valvular heart diseases and atrial fibrillation and atheroma of the aorta. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is superior in identifying potential cardiac sources of emboli. Due to insufficient data on TEE findings in ischemic stroke in Iran, the present study was done to evaluate TEE in...
